Giraffes are weird animals?
Did you know? The number of vertebrae in a giraffe's neck are exactly the same as in a human? We have seven cervical vertebrae - so does a giraffe. Even though his neck is extremely long. His vertebrae are spaced and larger, yet there are only 7 bones in his long neck. Did you know? For a Giraffe to drink water he cannot simply bend his neck and drink. He will choke. He must get down so that his neck is not completely vertical, meaning his neck must be slightly bent upwards. To do this he places his feet as far apart as he can get them, slowly, one at a time he steps sideways until they are as far apart as possible. Then he bends his neck, keeping his head as far up as possible - almost like he's looking directly ahead. Then he slowly starts drinking water. If a Lion attacks at this time, he is vulnerable and will probably be a victim because he takes a long time to get his feet back together again. Did you know? A Giraffe is a powerful adversary and is not scared of Lions. They use their front legs to kick their attacker away. If a Lion does get kicked by a Giraffe he will probably break a few bones, maybe even his back if the Giraffe kicks him in the middle. Also he will fly through the air and will land at least a hundred feet away. A Giraffe has an extremely powerful kick. Judeline Meintjes

Contributor's Note
Being South African, (from the Republic of South Africa), I grew up learning this type of information in school. Giraffes are abundant in South Africa, which is maybe why they are such fascinating creatures.

Now if we could just teach Giraffes to play soccer. That would be a sight to see.
